I bought this for my 8 year old son for Christmas. It's a great idea and includes a lot of tools that don't seem to be available anywhere else for children. However, the quality is suspect. The lathe seems to work just fine, but the drill press randomly stops working when using and the jig saw doesn't even seem to cut through the wood provided in the kit. I wish this set was better quality because my son is thoroughly enjoying it, but I suspect that it won't last... even with my super gentle child.

I purchased this for my 6 year old. I was a bit concerned he wouldn't be able to work it, but he can do everything. It is very safe too. We haven't let him work on it alone, but there seems to be no problem. The only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is because it's made of plastic that does not appear to be real durable. We had trouble with a small crack forming when the base was tightened down. This does not effect function, but is still a concern. I would love to see this product made with sturdy metals.

I bought one years ago for my son when he was like 8 he is now 31. I really liked then and now I bought one for my grandson. He really enjoys it. He's cutting wood like his papa.

I found that this tool works exactly as described. My 5 year old was very excited about it, and I was unsure at first. After setting it up, we used it to make his first project. with my guidance, He was able to do most of the work himself, and had a great sense of satisfaction when finished. I think he will be able to use this tool all by himself in a year or 2. If you work slowly and do not force the wood there is no reason that this tool will not last a long time. The DVD give you a quick visual lesson on using the 4 different tools here. It comes with a little wood, but easy to buy more at a local craft store, or on Ebay. I am very happy with this product.

We purchased this for our 7 year old son. He is mechanically inclined and took to everything right away. The quality is great for a starter piece. It is his favorite item from Christmas and some of the pieces are showing some wear. I say we have already gotten our moneys worth out of it as he has been drawing, cutting out and sanding like crazy. The lathe is also a favorite and he is able to switch over from cutting to the lathe with minimal help. I would definitely recommend to others both familiar and unfamiliar with tools. Very user friendly!!

My son was SO excited to get this for Christmas and was just as disappointed when it did not work at all. MindWare customer service was very helpful and sent out a replacement promptly, but that certainly did not help my son's Christmas morning disappointment. Hopefully the replacement will actually work. Do NOT buy this unless you can afford for your child to be greatly disappointed.

It's a nice tool to get an interested woodworker started. However the tools that come with it are dull and it will take forever to get anywhere when using the lathe adaption.

The saw portion of this tool does not work at all. It has been a real disappointment. Wish we would have bought something else.

The motor did not work, and we had to return. So sad because it was the one thing my son asked for from Santa this year. The return/refund process was very easy, but we are hesitant to try and order another one when it finally becomes available again.

This is a product that needs parental supervision. I loved it and was so surprised when I saw that the motor was stronger than it looked like it would be. It looked so flimsy when I opened the box 2 days before christmas when it arrived. To my surprise, it did everything it said and my grandson was thrilled as we made his first candlestick holder. I want a bigger one just like it for me.

This was the only item my son asked for from Santa this year. It broke within minutes of him trying to use it. Very disappointing and now we have to figure out a way to 'return' it to the North Pole (aka Santa). We are extremely hesitant to replace this item.

There are so many tiny pieces and the packaging is insufficient. It arrived opened with lots of missing pieces. A big disappointment.

This tool is perfect for a kid who loves woodworking/building things. We got this for my 7 yr old for Christmas and he loves it. He has already buildt two wooden candlesticks and a model airplane. So far it's held up great and is very safe for him to use.

All seems good, base rather flimsy, hard to mount solid. motor too weak for lathe feature, all else is great, child occupied for hours.

We have been so impressed with this purchase for our 6 year old. Each function works well, though the sander stick ons tend to fly off the machine. My son loves working on it - and though he needs help with it, I am happy to help bc the machine is awesome.

If there was an option for zero stars, that is what I would give it. Don't waste your money on this. We tried the lathe and the jigsaw, the motor is way underpowered to operate either, and then we gave up and put it back in the box to return. Very disapointing.
